The steps that actually matter

This is a short setup once the remote is in the right mode.

Step 01

Enter Switch Mode first

Hold Y + Home until the remote connects and the LED between Home and Screenshot turns solid blue.

Step 02

Install the plugin in Anki

In desktop Anki, open Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons, paste 406900239, and restart Anki when prompted.

Step 03

Open the MODI menu and map what you need

After Anki restarts, go back to the menu bar and open MODI Anki Remote so you can custom-remap the buttons and test them in review.

Notes

When this is worth doing

A lot of people can just review in Keyboard Mode without installing anything extra. The MODI plugin is the Switch Mode option for when you want custom remapping in Anki.

  • Use the plugin with Switch Mode when you want to custom-remap what each button does in Anki.
  • If Keyboard Mode already works for your routine, you can skip the plugin entirely.
  • Keep the remote vertical with the D-pad facing down while you test the bindings.
  • If the plugin menu does not appear right away, restart Anki again before troubleshooting anything deeper.
  • This setup is for desktop Anki on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
